I have not posted for some time because my life has recently entered a tailspin. Ironically enough, it is not due to the rapidly collapsing economy or the like. It all began with a friend who loaned me a tri-field meter, and, God willing, may end with moving our family...somewhere else...
For those of you who have never heard of a tri-field meter, it is a device that allows you to measure the strength of the electromagnetic fields around you (among other things). This post from May of this year contains a table showing common measurements of these fields as produced by the electrical appliances and gadgets in your home or office, which are measured in units called milliGauss.
In order to put these measurements into perspective, it helps to know that several countries worldwide have adopted official standards for safe levels of daily exposure to these electromagnetic fields, or EMFs, ranging from 1 to 3 milliGauss. Our own EPA has proposed a safety standard of 1 milliGauss.
Personally, I'd like to know what drugs they are on, because after driving around the neighborhood with this tri-field meter, it was hard to find a spot where it dipped below 2 mG. But worse, when nearing certain power lines in residential neighborhoods, in close proximity to the houses, I got readings as high as 35.
And this is where my own personal tailspin comes in. Measurements inside my house ranged from 8 mG to 25 mG. These were not readings that I took standing next to the refrigerator or among myriad appliances. These were the ambient readings throughout the house, with the highest readings being in my children's bedrooms.
I knew, based on symptoms I have been experiencing for well over a year, that EMFs were a problem in our house, but I had no idea it was this bad.
And if that weren't bad enough, when I stepped out in the backyard, the readings, instead of dropping, continued to climb as I walked toward the very rear of the yard--where the power lines run through the middle of the block. These are not the giant high-voltage lines. They look like standard residential supply lines. Standing in the backyard--where my children play every day--the readings were between 35 and 50 mG, and if I held the meter over my head, it climbed above 100.
I checked the other blocks in my area and found that the readings were not nearly so high--and then I realized why. Most of the power lines carry a single wire on top. Ours carry three. And the current in those lines must be unbelievable.
To say that I am alarmed by this news surpasses understatement. I have found myself practically unable to do all but the most critical tasks (feeding, dressing and schooling the brood) and have become unhealthily obsessed with figuring out how and where we can move...yes, in this housing market... The only thing that keeps me from being utterly paralyzed is knowing that God is on our side, and if it is His will to rescue us, then it will happen.
If it is not His will, then I must consent to suffer...which would be so much easier if I didn't have to watch my children's delicate nervous systems being driven to distraction not only by all the environmental poisons they are already saddled with, but now this.
Thy will be done, Lord. I will continue to be patient, somehow...
Please keep our family in your prayers.
